The Free Medical Clinic receives $100,000 from United Way of the Midlands to support Health Care for the Uninsured

Columbia, SC — The Free Medical Clinic has announced that it has received a $100,000 grant from United Way of the Midlands to support Access to Care for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. This funding will be used to provide on-site primary care, specialty care, access to medications and medical supplies, and additional resources that support health care.

“We are deeply grateful to United Way of the Midlands for their generous support of The Free Medical Clinic,” said Freddie Strange, Executive Director. “This grant strengthens our ability to provide high-quality, compassionate care to uninsured adults across the Midlands. Through our long standing partnership, we can continue addressing critical health needs and improving lives in our community.”

The Free Medical Clinic has been a long time grantee and Community Impact partner agency of United Way of the Midlands. In 2024, 1,518 patients received care at The Free Medical Clinic and over 11,000 prescriptions were dispensed. In total, over $2,000,000 in direct services were provided to Clinic patients.

“The Free Medical Clinic is one of the many new grants released this year to support programs that strive to make lasting improvements in the areas of basic needs and resilience,” said Sara Fawcett, President and CEO of United Way of the Midlands. “Thanks to the tremendous generosity of business leaders, individuals, and volunteers throughout the year, we are able to provide funds to valuable programs like Access to Care, which will help us create generational change throughout the Midlands.”
